NASHUA, N.H. -- The “Drive For Five” is complete, and the Nashua Silver Knights are Futures Collegiate Baseball League champions again.
Nashua’s road to its league-record fifth championship -- and first since 2017 -- needed a deciding third game for the first time ever, but the Silver Knights never looked back after another strong first inning en route to a 5-3 win over the top-seeded and two-time defending champion Worcester Bravehearts on Saturday night at Historic Holman Stadium.
The post-game scenes of celebration that are often taken for granted in the sports world seemed hard to dream even a few months ago as COVID-19 altered or completely canceled so many summer seasons across the country.
In the words of John Creedon Jr., who owns both the Silver Knights and Bravehearts, this marked an exciting ending to what was truly “the improbable season” in the Futures League.
