NASHUA, N.H. -- Deciding a champion in a winner-take-all Game 3 isn’t a common occurrence in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.
Just once in the league’s first nine years of existence has a series gone the distance, but the Nashua Silver Knights left little doubt that one would need to be scheduled in 2020 with their Friday night performance.
Left-handed pitcher Nick Guarino (Clark/New Haven, Conn.) tossed six innings of one-run ball with four strikeouts and third baseman Lucas Stalman (Boston College) hit a three-run home run to left field to punctuate a five-run first inning, leading the second-seeded Silver Knights to a 5-1 win over the Worcester Bravehearts at Historic Holman Stadium.
The fast start set the wheels in motion for a strong finish, and that means a deciding third game will be played at 6 p.m. Saturday. Both teams will be in search of their league-record fifth championship.
