Summer collegiate baseball is back in New England. The Futures League lifts the lid on its 14th season on Friday, with all eight teams seeing their first action by Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.
The Norwich Sea Unicorns enter the season as the defending champion and will be in action in one of the three Thursday games. The slate begins at 10:30 a.m. with the Westfield Starfires hosting the Worcester Bravehearts.
As is typical in the summer landscape, rosters change regularly early in the season as college programs at all NCAA levels finish their conference and regional tournaments, and high school players complete their seasons. Thus, not all players will be on their respective teams from the start. Also of note, the Futures League allows for the inclusion of rising freshmen, meaning that many stars from New England prep and high schools will get an early taste of college play throughout this summer.
