The home stretch of the longest Futures Collegiate Baseball League regular season ever has arrived.
We have reached the final days of the 68-game schedule, which will be immediately followed by a four-team playoff bracket that includes best-of-three semifinals and championship series.
The top two teams in the standings -- the Vermont Lake Monsters and Pittsfield Suns -- are creating separation from the rest of the pack entering Saturday’s playoff openers, but the fourth through seventh teams are still only separated by 3 ½ total games. The fourth-place Worcester Bravehearts currently have a half-game lead on the final playoff spot, with the Brockton Rox five games ahead in third.
It is sure to be a busy playoff chase in the Futures League as between three and five games remain for each of the eight teams.
