Jake Elbeery knew immediately that the coaching staff at Richmond was relying on his production.
Following a freshman fall in which he showcased his offensive potential, Elbeery received a sit-down with former Spiders head coach Tracy Woodson.The message to Elbeery was a simple nod of approval that not many newcomers on the college diamond experience.
"(Woodson) told me not to worry about stepping on anyone's toes and just go to play to win," Elbeery said. "I knew that with my hard work I deserved to play and would."
The faith Woodson placed in Elbeery paid off as the first baseman from North Andover, Mass., batted .322 with five home runs and 44 RBIs in 55 games during his inaugural season.
