The craziest thing about Dom Keegan winning the College World Series as a freshman at Vanderbilt probably wasn’t the national title itself.
Instead, it was a familiar voice yelling at him from the opposing dugout during batting practice of the first game of the championship series: “What are you doing over there at first base?”
It was his former batterymate at Central Catholic High School, Steve Hajjar, now at Michigan.
Last year, the longtime friends were teaming up on high school diamonds around Massachusetts — Hajjar the left-handed ace pitcher; Keegan the rock-solid catcher. Now, here they were on opposite sides, representing the nation’s final two college teams in Omaha, Neb.
