John Toffey wrapped up his third season at Winchendon last spring. What used to be a lethargic program has quickly become one of the true powers in the Northeast. Twice, Winchendon has taken home the NEPSAC New England Small School Championship. Wherever Toffey has been, success has followed.
Starting out, first as an assistant and later head coach at Salisbury School, he led the Crimson Knights to six WNEPBL titles in seven years. In 2014, Salisbury finished with a 33-1 record, and finished ranked eighth nationally by Perfect Game. Five players from that team were MLB draft choices. Two players reached the big leagues.
After leaving Salisbury for Cheshire Academy, Toffey's clubs won two more WNEPBL championships in three seasons. Now he is doing the same at Winchendon, where he also serves as Director of Admissions.
"I have been fortunate to work with some outstanding players and teams,'' said Toffey. "During my time at Salisbury, the amount of talented players we had brought national recognition to private school baseball."
