The UConn coaching staff has been able to take advantage of the changes to college baseball during the pandemic by capitalizing on the NCAA Transfer Portal.
On its way to a 34-8 start and No. 15 ranking in the nation, the Huskies are getting significant contributions out of 12 NCAA transfers. The ways in which the players started their respective college careers vary, but the common denominator is that they make up the core of an experienced team that is on top of the Big East Conference entering the weekend.
"We joke that it's like the Netflix show; we've got Last Chance UConn," said UConn's top hitter, Erik Stock, a transfer from Old Dominion. "It was a really tough process in the Transfer Portal. I probably sent out 40 to 50 emails. Literally, five minutes after I sent one to UConn, (recruiting coordinator and pitching coach) Josh McDonald got back to me right away. It was during their rain delay in the 2019 NCAA Regional at Oklahoma State."
We'll take a look at UConn's 12 NCAA transfers who have been major contributors this season and the path they took to Storrs, Conn.
