
Bentley University announced on Monday afternoon the death of legendary baseball coach and Director of Athletics Bob DeFelice.
DeFelice spent 54 seasons as coach of the Bentley University baseball program from its inception in 1969 to 2022. At the time of his retirement, no baseball coach at any NCAA level had a longer tenure.
There will never be another coaching career like the one DeFelice authored. He started at a time when a college baseball coach was not a full-time job, and he coached the Winthrop High (Mass.) football team for 17 seasons. He has been inducted to nine different Hall of Fame institutions, including the Bentley Athletic Hall of Fame, the BC Athletic Hall of Fame, the Winthrop High School Hall of Fame, and the Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame.
DeFelice. who played three years of professional baseball in the Red Sox organization, died at 82.
