WORCESTER -- David Castillo put the final stamp on one of the most accomplished careers of any Boston City League baseball player ever with his performance in the MIAA D5 championship game.
The hard-throwing right-hander lifted No.3 Boston English to a 7-1 victory over No. 1 Georgetown in the D5 championship game at Polar Park. Castillo caps a month in which he earned Community Academy Valedictorian honors. In a couple of months, Castillo will become the first member of his family to attend college when he enrolls at Northern Essex Community College.
Castillo earned the win on the mound, fighting through command issues to work six innings. His pitching line was effective, if not clean -- 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 6 BB, 7 K -- but he consistently found ways to get himself out of trouble with timely strikeouts. Boston English (22-2) becomes the first Boston City League team ever to win a state championship and the first team from any sport at the school to hold a state crown since 1971.
Here's a look at three stars from the game.
