Bishop Feehan (Mass.) coach Joe Breen is the first to admit his team is heavy on projection and light on past performance.
No other New England high school team boasts a 1-2 punch of starting pitchers with as much upside, with Texas commit Brody Bumila and Northeastern-bound Andrew Shute primed to lead a postseason push. However, neither has so much as a postseason win. Much of their recruiting interest was generated through the travel ball circuit.
That jives with the state of baseball at the high school and prep levels. Prospects forge their recruiting paths during the summer and fall at showcase events, college camps, clinics, and scout days, while the high school and prep season serves as more of an opportunity for players to ramp up for prime recruiting season.
