Boston College baseball coach Mike Gambino intends to remain in the job he's held since 2010 after both of his paid assistants resigned from their positions this week.
"That's the plan," Gambino said. "My goal has always been to make this a job I never have to leave."
Former BC pitching coach and recruiting coordinator Kevin Vance resigned to accept the same position at the University of Arizona on Friday. Vance, a 32-year-old San Diego native, coached at BC for two seasons after spending the previous five as an assistant at the University of Rhode Island. This season, BC matched its best all-time record at 37-20, earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The staff ERA was 5.46, ranking 101st in college baseball.
"Kevin did a great job and got offered a position at Arizona," Gambino said. "His parents live in Southern California. He's been out here for a while, and it's great for him to be closer to home at a top program that can pay more money. That's the goal for everybody. It doesn't matter the career. He's working at a top program and making more money for his family."
