Things weren’t going well at the plate for Ryan McKenna over the first two months of the season. The Berwick, Maine, native hit just .207 in April and then .210 in May playing for the Bowie Baysox of the Eastern League.
It is the infielder’s second stint at Double A having earned a promotion to Bowie in late June last season. This season, however, offered an opportunity that already had passed the year prior, a trip back home, where the tide began to turn in his favor.
“I was really excited to go back home in Portland and New Hampshire, both those were about an hour from where I grew up,” McKenna said. “That was a good time to see those stadiums and play those affiliates. I got to have a bunch of family come. That’s always a good morale boost sometimes.”
