It was an unforgettable day for Sebastian Keane.
After being passed over in the first 10 rounds during the first two days of the MLB draft, the North Andover (Mass.) High ace was selected Wednesday by the Boston Red Sox in the 11th round (347th round).
Hours later, Keane pitched the Scarlet Knights to an historic upset victory in the MIAA Super Eight. Keane — the region's top high school pitching prospect — struck out nine batters over 7 1/3 innings, as North Andover beat defending Super Eight champion Franklin, 5-3 — the first time a No. 8 seed beat the No. 1 seed in Super Eight history.
After a relatively quiet first two days of the MLB draft for the region, Keane was one of more than three dozen New England ballplayers selected over the final 30 rounds.
