A quick look at this summer’s Futures Collegiate Baseball League statistics would suggest that the Worcester Bravehearts had quite the formidable pitching staff.
Angelo Baez (St. Thomas Aquinas) was tabbed as FCBL Pitcher of the Year, teaming up with Eric Chavarria (Cypress) and Shawn Babineau (Springfield/Ashland, Mass.) to form an outstanding top of the starting rotation. Baez and Babineau were two of just four pitchers to strike out 60 batters in the circuit this summer.
“I know a lot of guys were getting tired at the end, and that's not unlike other teams, but there were some guys that still had some pretty good innings,” said director of baseball operations Kevin Hartigan, whose team finished 30-26 to earn the No. 4 seed in the postseason.
