The Nashua Silver Knights needed a win in their final game of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League’s regular season to even secure a playoff position. It was an unusual spot for Nashua, which had qualified for the postseason in each of its first six seasons of its existence.
That game Aug. 6 in Portsmouth, N.H., was won, and Nashua’s season would never be the same again.
Just six days after clinching the No. 5 seed, the Silver Knights completed a perfect playoff run at historic Holman Stadium, capturing their second consecutive and fourth-ever FCBL title with a 2-0 win over the Worcester Bravehearts.
"When we made the playoffs, I could tell these guys were really into it, and they wanted to win," Nashua manager B.J. Neverett said. "The atmosphere here is a winning atmosphere. The kids feed off that.
