Who could blame Dominic Perachi for not wanting to venture far from his college home at Salve Regina University this summer?
There aren’t many better summer destinations in New England than Newport, R.I.
But, the Washington Depot, Conn., native isn’t staying in “The City by the Sea” for warm days at the beach. In fact, little has changed from spring into summer as he’s still mowing down batters at an incredible rate for the city’s famed New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) franchise, the Newport Gulls.
“Newport is just an awesome place to be,” said Perachi, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound left-hander who attended Shepaug Valley High School. “There’s an incredible environment at Cardines (Field) with all the fans, and this league has such great competition. Ever since I played there (in a Salve intrasquad) scrimmage my freshman year, I knew this is a place I wanted to be.”
