August means that playoff time is near across New England’s three summer collegiate leagues.
The NECBL will be the first league to begin the “second season,” as eight teams begin the chase for the Fay Vincent Sr. Cup on Thursday. Four best-of-three wild-card round series will begin the proceedings.
The Vermont Mountaineers topped the regular-season standings with a 30-11 record, winning the North Division for the third consecutive year. Also winning their respective divisions were the reigning NECBL champion Newport Gulls in the Coastal, and the Bristol Blues in the West.
