The Austin Prep baseball team hasn't gone to bed after a loss since April 19, 2023. That is, before tonight.
Cheshire Academy put an end to Austin Prep's 38-game winning streak, an extended stretch of dominance that started in Austin's first-ever season as a New England Prep School Athletic Committee (NEPSAC) program in 2023. A month into its first prep season, Austin Prep stopped losing after a setback to Dexter Southfield in mid-April. The Reading, Mass., program then went almost two years to the date before suffering another defeat to a NEPSAC program.
Cheshire Academy is every bit the formidable foe this season with a handful of 90-mph pitchers who are committed to big-time college programs. Yesterday, Austin Prep saw Clemson commit Daniel Margolies for four innings, Virginia Tech commit Tyler Stone for two innings, and Notre Dame commit Garrett Snyder for the final inning. Cheshire Academy was motivated to snap the Austin Prep streak.
Margolies' fastball topped out at 93 mph, Stone's at 95 mph, and Snyder's at 91 mph, according to Prep Baseball New England Scouting Coverage. If Austin Prep's trajectory under coach Jonathan Pollard is any indication, there will be future winning streaks. Austin Prep went 25-0 in 2022 in its final MIAA season.
