For Hamden Hall, Friday night's dominant 11-4 triumph over Winchendon School in the New England Small School championship capped off one of the finest campaigns in NEPSAC baseball history with a 27-2 mark.
Played at Fiondella Field on the campus of the University of Hartford, Hamden Hall broke open a tight game early, scoring three times in the third and sixth innings, respectively.
Ace senior right-hander and future Texas Longhorn Gavin Lyons completed his stellar career on the bump, going 6.1 innings, allowing four runs (two earned), on six hits, while fanning six. Lyons, a Guilford, Conn.. native, finished his prep career with a 30-0 record.
"Gavin is a great competitor and an even greater human being,'' said Hamden Hall head coach Brad Chernovetz, who took over the reins from former head coach Joe Fontana in 2020. "He also batted .333 this year. Gavin pitched two innings in our semifinal game (versus Marianapolis Prep) and then came back to pitch 6.1 in the finals."
