The beginning of a college baseball season is often spent trying to slot players into new positions or filling in gaps left due to graduation, but it also gives newcomers a chance to make an impact on their clubs, with hopes of earning a spot in the starting lineup.

Players at several of New England’s Division 1 schools have done just that already, perhaps nowhere more than Boston College. The Eagles have had a pair of freshmen in the starting lineup during each of their first six games, and a slew of rookie pitchers will see time as part of a deep bullpen.

Other players will certainly emerge throughout the spring, but NEBJ takes a look at a group of New England-native rookies well on their way.

In addition to those mentioned below, UConn catcher Pat Winkel (Orange, Conn.) has been limited to only five at-bats through the first two weekends of the season due to a hamstring injury.
