The 2023 MLB Draft concluded last week with 26 New England prospects earning selections in the 20 rounds. However, those 26 won't be the only regional players to sign pro contracts.
All 30 MLB organizations are expected to sign players to nondrafted free-agent deals in the coming days and weeks. In fact, four players with New England ties have already signed MLB contracts.
While those players will have to matriculate through the minors to make life-changing money at the professional level, there is more money available to nondrafted free agents at the minor league level this season. After being limited to $20,000 per contract in 2020 and 2021, players can now receive a maximum of $150,000 and not count against a team’s bonus pool.
