Northeastern pitcher Dennis Colleran (North Attleboro, Mass.) remembers that day like it was yesterday.
“I have a video of it that I watch sometimes to remind myself of (what happened),” Colleran said. “I watch the pitch and see the way that my arm recoiled. … I knew as soon as it happened. But I was in denial. I was like, ‘Oh, maybe it’s just a forearm strain.’ Getting the MRI back a couple of weeks later, obviously, it was real.”
After more than a year off of the game mound, Colleran can finally start to put that memory in the past. He is at the end of the long road back from Tommy John surgery -- a harsh reality for many pitchers these days, including several of his Northeastern teammates -- and has returned to doing what he loves. He recently signed a contract to play on the Cape with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks after a promising start to the summer with the Futures League’s Worcester Bravehearts.
