On relieving ‘Bum,’ finding positives and LeBron

By Dan GuttenplanJune 1, 2018

Auburn, Mass., native Tyler Beede spent the month of May with the Sacramento River Cats — the Triple-A affiliate for the San Francisco Giants.

Beede, who made two big-league starts with the Giants in April as an injury replacement, has had an up-and-down season in Triple A, logging a 2-5 record and 5.73 ERA. He may have turned a corner during his most recent appearance May 26, when, for the first time as a professional, he came out of the bullpen. Pitching in relief of rehabbing Giants ace Madison Bumgarner, Beede closed out a 2-0 victory by pitching the final four scoreless innings.

A Lawrence Academy alumnus and former Vanderbilt University national champion, Beede has conducted a monthly Q&A with NEBJ since 2014.
