Eventually, Mike Costantino had to turn off his phone.
It was a day last June that began similarly to many for Costantino, a coach and former owner of Legends Baseball. His 14-year-old Legends Prospects team was at the Perfect Game BCS National Championship in Fort Myers, Fla., and his best pitcher, Thomas White, was tabbed to pitch their first game against Genesis Baseball out of Fort Lauderdale.
Any similarities to past days would be gone once the game started.
“After five pitches, the coach from the other team came up next to me and said, ‘He just hit 92,’” said Costantino. “That’s what started it.”
