BC High coach Steve Healy joined The Base Path Podcast to reflect on his team’s Massachusetts D1 state championship as well as his role as the President of the Mass. Baseball Coaches Association.
Last spring, Healy led BC High to its first state title since 2009 with a victory over Catholic Conference rival St. John’s Shrewsbury in the MIAA D1 final. The BC High alumnus took his team to Fenway Park to get recognized for the honor this summer.
“You’d like another one, but if another one doesn’t come along, I’m good,” Healy said. “It was a wonderful group of kids that had one thing in mind: to win it. They sacrificed so much to get there. We had almost gotten there the year before. We lost to Taunton in the Elite 8, and it was a heck of a game.
“They made one more play than us. We got on the bus at the end of the day, and it was tears and we felt miserable. But you looked around, and it was like, ‘This guy’s back, this guy’s back, this guy’s back.’ So, it was a lot of sophomores and juniors … Every day in practice, they gave me everything they had. These guys emptied the tank every day, and it started with our leaders, Liam Kinnean, Sam Keane, and Cole Bohane, our three captains.”
