Connecticut native Ben Casparius joined The Base Path Podcast to discuss his experience of winning the World Series with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The former Baseball U CT product and UConn ace got the start for the Dodgers in Game 4 with his team leading the Yankees 3-0 at Yankee Stadium. In just the first start of his MLB career, Casparius allowed one run in two innings before giving way for a bullpen game that the Dodgers eventually lost. They won the next time out in Game 5 to cap the title.
Before taking the mound in the World Series, Casparius had made just three regular-season relief appearances and three more in the postseason.
“Oh, I think it hit me right when I walked out onto the field,” Casparius said. “I remember coming out of the tunnel 40 minutes before game time. There was a camera crew with us. I’m walking out onto the field with our bullpen catcher, and I’m just like, ‘Wow, we’re here. I grew up here. All my family and friends are here.'”
