Holy Cross coach Ed Kahovec joined The Base Path Podcast to reflect on his program’s offseason, which comes on the heels of the Crusaders’ best season in Kahovec’s five-year tenure.
Holy Cross went 26-27 (14-11 in the Patriot League) in 2024, pushing Kahovec’s career record to 74-129 at Holy Cross. Kahovec and his staff have not followed the nationwide trend of recruiting through the transfer portal.
“One of the biggest challenges for us is not knowing what the roster is going to look like year to year,” Kahovec said. “We don’t lose a ton of players year to year, but it’s very hard to get transfers in here at Holy Cross. It’s not an easy process due to the academic standards. So, it’s not as simple as you lose someone, you go pick someone else up.
“We’re bringing in enough guys to protect the program from a depth standpoint, but we certainly don’t want to be over-recruiting. I think we have found, a pretty good method and formula as to what that looks like for us.”
