Podcast: ISL champion coach Chris Margraf of Lawrence Academy

The latest guest on The Base Path Podcast recently coached his team to the ISL title, Lawrence Academy skipper Chris Margraf.

Lawrence won an ISL championship for the second time in the last four seasons by posting a 5-3 victory over Belmont Hill on May 18.

Duke commit John Paone ’25 posted a 2-0 record and 1.75 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 12 tournament innings. Teammate Logan Forgie ’26 picked up a dominant win in the semifinal round win against St. Mark’s, going the distance while recording nine strikeouts.

“It does help when you have two really good pitchers, like Logan Forgie and John Paone,” Margraf said. “The adage is that pitching wins, and it does. The playoff takes it to a whole different level. It was quite an accomplishment for this team.

“We tasted it last year by getting to the championship game. It’s never easy to get back. Sometimes you’ll go another 10 years as a coach and never get back. The fact that we got back to the championship game, we were pretty battle-tested. Let’s try to bring this one home.”
