This week's pod is with one of the most accomplished prep school coaches in New England – Winchendon head coach John Toffey.
Toffey came to Winchendon in 2018 after leading Salisbury School and Cheshire Academy to a combined record of 135-9 and eight conference championships. He is now well into the process of building Winchendon into one of the region’s top developmental programs for aspiring college baseball players with 15 Winchendon players currently committed to playing at the next level.
"I felt really confidence that we could do it here," Toffey said. "The school itself is terrific. There are really small class sizes of seven to nine students. It's a very personalized kind of approach to academics. And I thought that we could bring that same personalized approach and place a real focus on each individual student. We could bring that same approach to baseball to really be able to develop each baseball player to the best of his ability. We've been fortunate enough to do that."
Winchendon is about to burst onto the national stage as a college baseball prep destination with a $3.5 million improvement to the athletic facilities currently in the works. During Toffey's first few seasons at Winchendon, the team used facilities like New England Baseball Complex and Franklin Pierce University for practices and games.
