The latest edition of The Base Path Podcast serves as an introduction for prep baseball fans to the most recent hire in the NEPSAC.
Worcester, Mass., native Mike Abraham accepted the position at Worcester Academy, replacing recently retired coach Jim McNamara. Abraham, who also coaches with North East Baseball travel program, will take over a squad that went 14-8 and returns two Division 1 commits in Mavrick Rizy (UConn) and Gabe Pitts (Central Connecticut State).
"I was born in Worcester," Abraham said. "I still live in Worcester. I live probably 60 seconds from Gaskill Field, our home field. Growing up and seeing Worcester Academy, playing youth basketball two minutes from campus, I was always around the program. I think it was the timing. It was an absolute no-brainer."
Abraham played baseball at St. John's Shrewsbury and Eckerd College (St. Petersburg, Fla.) before making his way to NEB travel program in his early-20s. Still not even 30, he is looking to incorporate some of the NEB coaching philosophies at Worcester Academy.
