History has always played a role throughout baseball from youth leagues on up to the Major Leagues. Over the upcoming weeks, New England Baseball Journal will delve into some of the history of New England prep school baseball. The focus will be on individual programs and that one magical season that no one on the team can forget.

Six years ago, history began on a cool, crisp early April afternoon. The 2014 Belmont Hill baseball team opened its season with a narrow one-run victory over Worcester Academy. Who knew it would mark the beginning of something truly remarkable put forth by this band of baseball brothers?

In spite of dodging a few landmines along the way, the Sextants never buckled. There were various points during the season when they trailed late into games, yet found a way to rally back and prevail. A majority of the roster knew how to adapt in critical situations due to the fact that many had played multiple sports at the school.

For sure, the 2014 Belmont Hill baseball team stands high atop the pedestal as being one of the finest in New England history. The Sextants won their first 19 games before finishing an ISL championship campaign with an overall record of 19-1.
