Choate Rosemary Hall '24 Ian Wirtz has always been willing to work on the baseball diamond.
"The first thing that impressed me about Ian was his immense love of the game,'' said Choate coach Andrew Dickson, who came to the Wallingford, Conn., school in October of 2022. "Ian loves to work and loves being a baseball player. He is a kid that works extremely hard and loves being on the field or in the cage. He is a great teammate as well and has earned immediate respect from his peers.''
Wirtz spent three years at Cheshire High before transferring to Choate at the start of the 2023 semester. Wirtz initially had no intention of leaving Cheshire, but the prospect of reclassifying and extending his recruiting process swayed his decision.
"It was during my sophomore year when I started taking baseball more seriously,'' Wirtz said. "I was always a good student but I started thinking about reclassifying to give myself more time for development. I wanted to find a private school that would make me a better student as well as a better athlete. For me, Choate filled all of the boxes.''
