Buckingham, Browne & Nichols School has a dynamic duo who have been wreaking havoc inside the Independent School League for the past couple of seasons.
Seniors Matt Hirsch and Alex Sandell are as good a tandem as you will find in the ISL. Hirsch is a reigning MVP/First Team All-ISL recipient. Sandell was named an ISL Silver Slugger Award winner last year as well as an All-ISL First Team selection.
A right-handed pitcher/outfielder, Hirsch posted a .420 batting average last season and finished 4-1 on the mound to go with a 1.90 ERA and 47 strikeouts. Sandell, a shortstop, batted .472 with a 1.277 OPS and 14 stolen bases.
"Both Matt and Alex are excellent leaders, but in different ways, which makes them work well off of each other,'' said Knights head coach Craig McLaughlin. "Matt is very emotional when he pitches, and his compete level skyrockets when the game starts. However, he is a very conscientious leader keeping tabs on all of his teammates' winter workouts.
