A native of Lexington, Mass., Charlie Walsh came to Belmont Hill in 2021 as a repeat sophomore. He performed under the tutelage of Sextant's longtime coach Mike Grant for one season and is now playing under the direction of David Cunningham.
When Grant stepped down after the 2021 season Cunningham, who served as an assistant under Grant, took charge of the reins without missing a beat. Last season, the Sextants took home the ISL championship.
"Coach Grant has been an active mentor in my life since I enrolled at Belmont Hill and is one of the most influential people in my life,'' said Walsh, a shortstop/second baseman. "It was an honor to play for him and represent Belmont Hill on the field the past few years. Coach Cunningham has been around me for just as long, being an assistant during my sophomore season and taking over the helm my junior year. He has been a central piece of my getting acclimated to Belmont Hill as a student-athlete.''
Walsh spent two years at Lexington High before transferring to Belmont Hill. There, he got to know Lexington High alumnus Sal Frelick, who took him under his wing, especially during the COVID period. Frelick, a former Boston College star outfielder and 2021 first-round draft selection, is now a member of the Milwaukee Brewers.
