Mike Castellani has a plan to bring the St. George's School baseball program back to respectability in the ISL.
The former Bucknell University pitcher will look to follow a path that he helped forge as an assistant coach at Rogers High in Newport, R.I. There, Castellani and head coach Anthony Borgueta took over a two-win program in 2022. Last spring, Rogers High won the Rhode Island D3 state championship with an aggressive approach on the bases. As a team, Rogers stole 147 bases over 25 games.
At St. George's, Castellani inherits a program that went 0-15 in the ISL last season.
"The expectations are that we can do the same sort of deal here," Castellani said of the Middletown, R.I., school. "I took over a program that was pretty weak. We taught the kids to be aggressive. Kids this age often fear failure. We focus on the development of an aggressive, winning culture. We'll hold guys accountable and celebrate the aggressive mistakes."
