The Cape Cod League’s Falmouth Commodores will have a new leader in the dugout next summer, but he is certainly no stranger to New England baseball fans.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia — yes, the 12-year Major League Baseball veteran who is best known for his role in helping the Boston Red Sox win the 2013 World Series championship — has been tabbed to replace the legendary Jeff Trundy as Falmouth’s head coach starting in 2025.
Saltalamacchia has coached at various levels since catching his last professional game with the Detroit Tigers in 2018, including spending the last three summers on the Cape as an assistant for the Bourne Braves. Working under Scott Landers, he helped the Braves reach the past three league championship series, winning titles in both 2022 and 2023.
A New England baseball fixture, Trundy (West Minot, Maine) — who heads the baseball program at the Frederick Gunn School in Washington, Conn. — during the spring, had served as the Commodores’ skipper since 1999. In 2024, Trundy was selected as the Mike Curran Manager of the Year for the fourth time and will be enshrined into the Cape League Hall of Fame in November.
