Adam Merritt credits his five years at Kingswood Oxford as being a life-changing baseball experience. Merritt, a 5-foot-10, 195-pound senior right-hander, credits a big part of his development to K-O head coach Steve Cannata.
"Since coming here, I've become a whole new player from being a primary shortstop to focusing on pitching during my sophomore and junior seasons,'' said Merritt. "Playing the high-level competition in the Founders League has given me opportunities to play against the best and gain experiences to make myself better. The winter workouts here at Kingswood Oxford give me time to hone my skills and get my work in.''
Merritt's involvement with his summer travel program, the Connecticut Moose (Burlington, Conn.), has also proven to be invaluable. Not only did the program help refine Merritt's skill set, but it also played a major role during his college recruiting process.
"They've treated me great, letting me work out at their facility at any time,'' Merritt said. "My strength coach (Mike Munson) is someone I have worked with for two years now, and he has been widely influential in my pitching and strength development. He's also been a mentor for me throughout my baseball career. For the past few years, I've been training to gain weight and strength. This year, a big step in my training will be to continue my focus on lifting and gaining weight.''
