Three Parella brothers, Peter, Joey and Matt, have all donned the Portsmouth Abbey uniform. It began with Peter (Class of '19), followed by Joey (Class of '21), and lastly Matt, who graduated this past spring.
Standing 6-foot-5, 175 pounds, the youngest Parella emerged into a solid right-handed pitcher/infielder for the Ravens. This past spring, Parella led the Ravens in every offensive category, including hits (22), average (.449), slugging (.735), and OPS (1.226). On the bump, he pitched 36 innings and struck out 51, holding down a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 51:12.
Parella was named Eastern Independent League Player of the Year and earned First Team All-NEBJ honors.
Parella, bound for Rhode Island College in Providence in the fall, spent all four of his high school years at the Portsmouth, R.I., school. Having grown up in nearby Bristol, R.I., Portsmouth Abbey offered a close-to-home prep option.
