A Hadley, Mass., resident, Beau Elson spent his middle school years at the Eaglebrook School in Deerfield, Mass. While Deerfield Academy seemed like a natural fit as the next step in Elson's matriculation, he chose instead to enroll at Phillips Exeter Academy, where he has become a leader on the baseball and hockey teams.
"After being a day student at Eaglebrook, I was interested in being a boarding student,'' said Elson, a '24 graduate. "If I had gone to Deerfield, I would have been a day student and wouldn't have had the same opportunity. When I visited Phillips Exeter, I loved the large size of the school. I also liked the campus and how it was part of a town. I was impressed with the facilities, and I felt like I connected with (baseball and hockey head coach) Tim Mitropoulos.''
Elson arrived at the New Hampshire prep school in 2021 as a sophomore. He reclassified during his eighth-grade year at Eaglebrook.
Elson initially reached out to Mitropoulos during the fall of 2021. Mitropoulos says he was 'intrigued' after learning that Elson was multi-sport athlete coming from a highly respected middle school. A left-handed pitcher, Elson has developed a fastball that peaks in the high 80s. He also plays forward on the Big Red hockey team.
