Soon-to-be Portsmouth Abbey School senior Mitchell Canuel (Westport, Mass.) has continued a steady upward trajectory.
This past season, Canuel batted .349, collecting 22 hits, including 19 RBIs. He posted an .850 OPS, and swiped 15 bases in 15 attempts. On the mound, Canuel hurled 47 innings, going 6-2, allowing just six earned runs, while striking out 47 and walking only six. His ERA was a minuscule 0.89.
For his efforts, Canuel was named All-NEPSAC and EIL First Team for a second consecutive year.
"Mitch came to Abbey as a true freshman in the fall of 2021,'' said Ravens head coach Derek Gittus, who completed his 21st year at the helm. "Despite his youth, he started every game for us that spring as a shortstop, catcher, and relief pitcher. It was immediately clear he possessed a high baseball IQ and a strong passion for baseball that spread among his teammates. As he grew as a player, our young team grew around him and we won the EIL title.
