Not long after Jack Read encountered pain in his right shoulder, a million things raced through his mind. Having just finished his sophomore season at Proctor Academy, the right-handed pitcher was concerned about whether he could play summer baseball with the New Hampshire Prospects (Manchester, N.H.).
Unfortunately, Read received bad news from doctors, as an injury to his rotator cuff would keep him out of action for the entire season.
"Following a busy late-season stretch in which I threw nearly 200 pitches in five days, persistent soreness in my shoulder (during the opening round of the Lakes Region postseason tournament vs. St. Paul's School) led me to see a doctor and get an MRI,'' said Read. "The MRI identified a surface injury to a tendon in my frontal rotator cuff.''
Fortunately for him, the injury was diagnosed early enough to avoid surgery, as Read began a staunch physical therapy schedule.
