GROTON, Mass. -- By his own admission, Brayden Ryan was lacking on the academic side as an underclassman at Salem High in New Hampshire.
“I was not striving in the classroom at Salem,’’ he said. “I knew I needed a change because I had no clue what my plan was as a freshman or sophomore.”
He realized a change of scenery was needed. As an athlete, Ryan was still raw, yet he possessed some uncommon ability as a right-handed pitcher. However, with his academic struggles, the main focus was to get stronger in the classroom.
In 2020, upon the advice of family members and friends, Ryan looked into the prep school circuit. The school he expressed the most interest in was Lawrence Academy. Brayden, his mother Heidi, father Tom, and stepfather Paul (Grist) came to Groton for a meeting. After Brayden was accepted a few months later, his life turned 180 degrees.
