The top two teams in New England Baseball Journal’s Prep School Coaches Poll separated from the pack during the final week of April, but the Big Blue of Phillips Andover used three straight wins to narrowly take back the No. 1 slot.
The region features a great deal of parity, though, as seven squads received at least one first-place vote this week. Closely trailing Andover is a 10-win St. Sebastian’s club, while Taft has also received top consideration as a result of its 9-0 record. Belmont Hill, the Rhinos, and Worcester all jumped multiple spots in this week’s ranks, ahead of one new team slotting into the No. 10 position.
In addition, 14 other teams received top-10 consideration on at least one coach’s ballot. As a refresher, teams receive 10 points for a first-place vote, nine for a second-place vote, eight for a third-place vote, etc. Coaches from around New England serve as voting panelists for the poll, which is released each Tuesday during the season.
