Middlesex School coach Jason Sport wanted to get more from the annual training trip experience this year.
The second-year head coach reached out to Navigo Sports Tours (Nashua, N.H.) for input. Sport wanted to find a destination that would exceed the baseball aspect, thus focusing on a place that would educate his players about a certain culture.
"Puerto Rico piqued my interest,'' said Sport. "I wanted us to prepare for the season, but to also do something as a group that would get us out of our comfort zone."
His thought process centered around the concept of "mudita," which means joy or pleasure. Sport concluded that Puerto Rico was the perfect destination for the March trip. He says the Middlesex administration was completely in favor of the idea.
