The ambition from the outset was to venture south.
For anyone who hails from New England and is good enough to earn an athletic scholarship from a Division 1 college program located below the Mason-Dixon line, more often than naught, you jump at the opportunity.
Kindred Atwood never once hesitated in doing just that. The Bridgton Academy post-graduate from Ayer, Mass., was able to spark the interest of the University of New Orleans coaching staff and, as a result, he will be heading to the Crescent City next year.
“I always knew that I would like to go to college down south because I’m not a big fan of the cold,” said Atwood, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound right-handed pitcher. “UNO was a school that when I was deciding on where I wanted to go to college, it was a school that I knew I could succeed at as well as challenge myself.”
