WORCESTER, Mass. — All pitchers go through a learning phase. It is seen most commonly during the pre- and early-teen years. Throughout this developmental period, some are able process things quicker than others.
Back in May 2018, Luke Delongchamp, then a 15-year-old freshman pitcher for St. Peter-Marian High School, was in the midst of his learning curve while continuing to smooth out the rough edges.
On a cool, drizzly morning at Malden Catholic’s Rotondi Field, Delongchamp took a major leap forward in his progression. It was then that the tall, lanky right-hander served notice that he was on the cusp of becoming a top-level ace.
Facing Malden Catholic in the championship game of the Malden Catholic Tournament, Delongchamp tossed a complete-game one-hitter, striking out 10 during a 5-0 victory.
