Many of the region's top high school and prep prospects in the Class of 2022 converged on the UConn campus yesterday for the first East Coast Pro Showcase / Area Code Games tryout of the season. A total of 68 players from the Northeast region took part in a tryout organized by the Los Angeles Dodgers scouting staff. It was the first of three tryouts for the two marquee showcase events of the summer -- the East Coast Pro Showcase, which will take place from Aug. 2 to 5 in Hoover, Ala., and the Area Code Games, which will take place Aug. 6 to 10 in Los Angeles.
Yesterday's tryout was open to players from all six New England states, and also included players from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Eastern Canada. The final roster size for the Area Code Games is limited to 30 players. Last year, nine of the 30 players hailed from New England.
The Northeast region will have two more tryouts this month -- one in Scranton, Pa., on June 28, and one in Somerset, N.J., on June 29. Seeing as though the UConn event is the only one scheduled in New England, it figures to be the most heavily attended by New England players.
Here is a look at the New England players who attended the UConn tryout.
