With the realization setting in that there will likely be no high school baseball in New England this spring, we are starting to look ahead to the 2020-21 school year and what will hopefully be a return to action for local athletes.
Over the last few days, we've highlighted many of the top prospects around New England, including the 2020 NEBJ All-New England Prep Team. On Tuesday, we also broke down the top returning prospects ('21 and '22) in Massachusetts.
Another hot spot for recruiting in New England is the Connecticut/Rhode Island region, where some of the top returning prospects are already committed to D1 colleges. In fact, the top program in all of New England currently resides in Westport, Conn., where Staples High won its second state championship in the last three seasons last spring. Rhode Island's Bishop Hendricken also proved it has one of the greatest dynasties in New England sports with an undefeated season and 22nd state championship.
Today, we focus on the top '21 and '22 prospects in Connecticut and Rhode Island.
