With the realization setting in that there will likely be no high school baseball in New England this spring, we are starting to look ahead to the 2020-21 school year and what will hopefully be a return to action for local athletes.
This week, we’ve highlighted many of the top prospects around New England, including the 2020 NEBJ All-New England Prep Team. On Tuesday, we also broke down the top returning prospects (’21 and ’22) in Massachusetts. On Thursday, we highlighted the top 2021 and 2022 prospects in Connecticut and Rhode Island.
Another recruiting hotbed in New England is the Seacoast region of New Hampshire all the way up to Portland, Maine. In New Hampshire, Portsmouth High was slated to have arguably the top collection of Division 1 talent of any public school team in New England. Portsmouth High senior Calvin Hewett is committed to Vanderbilt, while juniors Ryan Minckler and Myles Sargent are committed to University of Virginia and University of Maine, respectively.
Portland, Maine, was home to New England's top high school draft pick last season, St. Louis Cardinals second-round selection Tre Fletcher. It is also home to arguably New England's top high school pitcher prospect in 2020, Hunter Owen.
